1. Job

I have been with FTN since August of 2001. It is a relaxing place to work with a casual dress code.  I get to work about 8 and leave around 5 or later.

I am an Environmental Engineer with FTN Associates, and I have done many things. SO many in fact that it is easier to just make it a separate page.  I am also doing this so that those of you who wonder what I do at work can now find out!

2. Education/CEUs

College: B.S. Chemical Engineering, University of Arkansas at Fayetteville (August 1996 to May 2000)

Post College: I have been to several training courses since graduating in May 2000. I am always on the lookout for courses that interest me and allow me to be more independent and work on my own while making me more useful to my employer.

1. Allen Bradley (PBA, November 2000) - This class was extremely helpful.  I learned how to program Allen Bradley Ladder Logic PLC 5 Controllers, the type used at the Pine Bluff Arsenal.

2. Contracting Officer Representative (Fort Lee, VA, May 2001) I took this course while working at the Pine Bluff Arsenal in Pine Buff, AR. This course covers the rules and restrictions federal employees face when dealing with contractors. It tells you what you can and cannot do and why. You learn about different kinds of contracts and how to manage them. While you may not manage the money (that is the roles of the base contracting office), you can and will have to deal with the contractors, and most importantly, this course helps you keep out of trouble.

3. Construction Surveying (UALR, Fall 2004) - This class was extremely helpful.  I had a good understanding of the material before I ever took it because of a co-worker named Dan B Robison, PLS.  He told me a lot about surveying, but this course just added to it immeasurably.

4. ArcView GIS (FTN, October 2004) - The best part about this course was that I learned how different ArcMap and ArcView are. They are so different it is amazing they are from the same company. We learned about shapefiles and what will replace them in ArcMap, geodetic databases. This course helped add to what I already knew about ArcView and helped me understand some of the advantages of both programs.  For example, managing datums and projections is much easier in ArcMap, but ArcView can be quite useful and simple to operate.

5. MS Access (PTC, June 2005) - Another course at PTC that I am SO glad I took.  I learned in this course what would have taken forever on my own, how to use MS access.  Although I have used it very little at work, I feel that knowing any database helps, and MS access is becoming common now.  Plus I am the MS Access guru here now!

6. Visual Basic for Applications (PTC, September 2005) - This class was one of the most useful I have ever taken in my life. The instructor, Keith Slaten, was excellent at presenting the material, and I cannot thank him enough for doing a great job!  It has helped me everyday and was worth all my time that it took (which was only 8 hours).

7. Engineering Intern - I plan to get my PE at some point, but first you need your EI, right!  I thank FTN for paying for me getting my EI (the test and the registration). If you want to get an EI, I recommend it.

Here are some websites of interest for CEUs

3. Hobbies

The fact is I know it is impossible, but I want to know EVERYTHING I can about EVERYTHING in the world.  Thus, I am always trying to learn new things. This website is just one of my hobbies, and I have a whole separate page for the rest, so go visit it!  AS I said since this would take an entire web page, I made it one!

4. Miscellaneous Stuff

Since I fly (RCA and full scale) and sail, I often need to know the weather. I have several sources:

1) Weather for Little Rock, AR: http://wwwa.accuweather.com/forecast.asp?zipcode=72211&partner=accuweather

2) Weather for flying: http://adds.aviationweather.noaa.gov/

3) Weather radar: http://www.weather.com/weather/map/72227?name=index_large_animated&day=1
